2008 Discover Hartford Bicycling and Walking Tour Description: The 2008 Tour has a bicycling tour with 2 routes, a 10 mile and a 25 mile route, including many of Hartford’s magnificent parks. There is also a 1 mile historic walking tour. Join thousands of people in motion, discovering all that is good and positive about Connecticut's Capital City. See new schools, stunning scenery, famous memorials and historic sites and exciting new housing downtown and around town. Bring home a treasure trove of information about the city, having spent a delightful day on a bicycle or on foot in Hartford's downtown, neighborhoods and backwaters.
Bicycling Routes The 2008 routes are based on the 2007 routes, but include new places and new directions for a fresh view of the City. The 10 mile route goes through the northern half of the City to take the 10 mile rider to gems they missed last year, such as the riverfront parks and Keney Park and its golf course. Added this year is: · Hartford Circus Fire Memorial: optional stop and talk with Rick Davey, the investigator that showed the fire was arson and identified “Little Miss 1565”. · Asylum Hill Neighborhood: features homes newly renovated by NINA, a non-profit community group dedicated to home ownership, public safety, education and economic development. · Downtown and the new residential tower that is the Hartford 21 Building. The 25 mile route, which can be expanded to 31 miles with optional loops, starts by following the 10 mile route. The route then splits off after the Asylum Hill neighborhood and goes through the southern half of the City in more detail than last year. Still included are fabulous Elizabeth Park and the renovated Pope Park. New this year are:

Walking Route Leave Bushnell Park and head down Elm Street. Turn left onto Trinity and tour around the State Capitol. The tour will then cut back into the park with stops at the Corning Fountain, Soldiers and Sailors Arch, and the Carousel. The tour exits the park and goes up Wells Street. We’ll make a right on Main Street and view City Hall, the Library and end the tour at the Butler-McCook House.
